This project was designed by an architect. The design resolved the age old problem of not enough space or light. The wall of windows in the Addition gives you the sensation of being outside while inside the room. The cathedral ceiling and clearstory windows give the space a larger, airier feel. In order to meet the Client’s requirements for their new room, the design could not blend harmoniously with the existing architecture. Therefore the architect decided to make the new structure stand out on its own merit. Although the design of the Addition stands out, it does not overly compete or overwhelm the existing structure. There are several elements of the Addition that are present in the existing home. For example, the vertical style and color of the siding are the same on the Addition and the existing home. There is also a gradual transition from the existing structure to the Addition through the new annex which connects the Addition to the existing home. The scope of this project also included a new front door, two large bay windows, new flooring and granite Kitchen countertops and a Bathroom renovation.
